In my past professional years at Leibniz University Hannover and TU Dortmund University, I have been primarily concerned with the role of spatial planning in future social challenges. For me, the central questions are how social trends affect and differentiate places, and which strategies and planning tools seem to be adequate for a more sustainable environment. This implies, for instance, how climate change is reflected spatially and which long-term protection and adaptation strategies need to be developed or how more sustainable transport systems in urban as well as rural areas might look like.
In my work, I combine planning theory approaches with specific spatial impacts of social trends and their effects on planning practices. During my work as a research associate, I did my doctorate at Leibniz University Hannover on planning cultures in urban riverscapes, and my goal now is to apply these findings to the transport sector.
In the MoveMe research group, I look at the transformation of mobility behaviour from a spatial-planning perspective and its effects on socio-spatial systems. Just like my favourite punk band sums it up: "I can change, you can change, we can change, the world can change, we can be the leaders of tomorrow" (Perkele).
